Story:

Janice Jones got shot through the leg about 10p.m. Wednesday near Highway 1 and Beach Boulevard.

Jones was eating pork chops in her motor home when her dog knocked over a gun on a seat nearby. The gun fired when it hit the floor, the bullet going through her right leg.

"It could have been worse," California Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye said. "The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank."

Jones was taken to Huntington Beach hospital by ambulance, then moved to Irvine Medical Center.

"Jones was treated at Huntington Beach," says Huntington Beach Hospital spokesperson Jim Washington.

The dog was found malnourished and with cigarette marks on its forehead.

“It could have done with a little less abuse and a few more of those pork chops,” Janet Ngo said, one of the  Huntington Beach animal control officers.

Jones may be charged for animal abuse and relating to the incident, for she had no license for the gun.
